Extended Storage Services

Whether you need to store new equipment until plant start-up, or need to decommission and store existing equipment, LIGHTNIN provides extended storage services to ensure that your equipment is properly prepared for, and maintained during storage. Proper handling of your capital equipment during extended storage will ensure that the equipment is ready for start-up when you are.

Extended Storage Services Include:

Prepare the equipment for storage

  • Drain the oil from the reducer.
  • Treat the reducer with corrosion inhibitor to prevent condensation moisture.
  • Remove and package the reducer dipstick and breather assembly for storage.
  • Plug the reducer with air-tight replacement plugs.
  • Wrap the reducer and all oil seals with protective material to prevent moisture, dirt and any other contaminates from damaging the equipment.
  • Visually inspect the equipment for any abnormalities.
  • Provide a written Storage Report outlining the preparation of the equipment for storage. This report will be the foundation for subsequent storage maintenance, start-up preparation and preventive maintenance records.

Maintain the equipment while in storage

  • Rotate the high-speed coupling to ensure that flat spots do not develop on the balls and races of the bearings.
  • Renew the corrosion inhibitor to prevent condensation moisture.
  • Inspect the replacement plugs to ensure that the housing is air-tight.
  • Inspect the dipstick/breather assembly storage packaging to ensure that no degradation has occurred.
  • Inspect the reducer and oil seal wraps to ensure that they are not allowing any moisture, dirt or other contaminates from damaging the equipment.
  • Visually inspect the equipment for any abnormalities.
  • Update the Storage Report to reflect the current storage maintenance information.

Start-up the equipment at the conclusion of the storage period

  • Unwrap and inspect the reducer, seals and dipstick/breather assembly.
  • Re-install the reducer oil to ensure proper start-up lubrication of all bearings and gears.
  • Sample and send out the oil for analysis to identify any contaminates that could cause premature equipment failure.
  • Grease all bearings and couplings to ensure proper lubrication.
  • Align the high-speed coupling to prevent vibration and coupling failure.
  • Check the external bearing temperatures to ensure that all motor and reducer bearings are within acceptable temperature ranges.
  • Take vibration readings for the motor and reducer to ensure that the equipment is operating within original design specifications.
  • Visually inspect the equipment for any abnormalities.
  • Update the Storage Report to reflect the start-up information.
