SPX Flow Technology’s high-capacity, low-energy, scraped surface heat exchanger, the GS Nexus, recently won the B.E.S.T in Baking Award at the International Baking Industry Exposition (IBIE).
The award, which stands for “Becoming Environmentally Sustainable Together,” honors suppliers who use advanced technology to foster energy conservation, reduced water usage, decreased landfill waste, healthy living, and a reduced overall impact on the environment. SPX Flow Technology accepted the award at the IBIE, which took place at the Las Vegas Convention Center this past October.
A panel of judges evaluated all entries by how they reduce transportation distances, greenhouse gas emissions, solid waste, water usage, and energy consumption. The GS Nexus received the award for low-energy cooling processes.
The GS Nexus is used to manufacture a number of food products, including shortening. The heat exchanger increases production capacity by reducing required time for mixing boxed shortening on site. SPX Flow Technology assessed cooling processes as they relate to design and configuration, and as a result, the GS Nexus scraped surface heat exchanger requires less energy per production hour for in-house shortening production.
