Since 2012, SPX has been working with Bright Dairy & Food Co., Ltd. to establish a new dairy processing plant in Shanghai that when completed, is expected to be one of the largest fresh dairy and yogurt plants in China.
When the $40 million contract was first awarded, the project focused on producing a wide range of fresh set and stirred yogurt varieties in large volume. Since then, SPX has been working with Bright Dairy to introduce other new processes to the factory, including processing lines for a new probiotic drink designed to meet increased Chinese consumer demand for healthy, nutritious beverages.
Growing in popularity across Asia, probiotic drinks are low-fat drinks created using fermented skimmed milk with probiotic cultures. According to Euromonitor, global sales of probiotic-enhanced products could rise by 51 percent to $42 billion by the year 2016.
In addition, SPX equipment and technologies are being employed to help Bright Dairy produce fresh pasteurised milk with extended shelf life and extended shelf life (ESL) yogurt – both of which will enable Bright Dairy to deliver dairy products to China’s rural population.
