The challenge

Our client wanted to decalcify casein whey UF permeate and replace existing crystallisation processes with new systems that minimised cooling water discharge.



The Solution

We installed a system to precipitate milk minerals and remove a proportion of them using hydrocyclone technology.

We installed the water jacketed crystalliser vessels and incorporated a system of heat exchangers to achieve a “tailor-made” cooling regime using hot water, cooling water and chilled water to optimise crystal development.

Wash Water Recovery – RO

The challenge

Our client wanted to increase casein production without having excessive waste water discharge.



The Solution

We installed a two-stage reverse osmosis (RO) process to recover clean water from spent casein wash water. The clean water was used for diafiltration and to wash other membrane processes on the site.

WPC - UF/DF

The challenge

Our client wanted to manufacture acid whey WPC as a bulk liquid export for drying off-site.



The Solution

We installed two large clarifiers and two 8-stage combined UF/DF lines to manufacture high protein WPC, using six inch spiral format ultrafiltration membrane elements.
