The challenge

Our client wanted to increase site casein and lactalbumin capacity by nearly 50%.

The Solution

We installed additional milk separation capacity and reconfigured the casein making and washing systems, using existing Humboldt decanters for dewheying and Sharples decanters for fines recovery and installing a new Conturbex dewatering centrifuge. The Pillet dryers were modified to provide increased airflow, and existing cyclone blocking problems were eliminated. A new pin mill was installed for increased milling capacity. A new lactalbumin clarifier was also installed.

The target capacity was largely achieved using prudent engineering rather than over-investment in plant.
