SPX FLOW’s Ocala Facility Cuts Emissions by 25 Percent Through Solar Energy Collaboration

The Ocala location plans to increase participation in 2023, resulting in 50 percent of its energy coming from solar

Ocala, FL, October 3, 2022 - SPX FLOW, Inc., a leading provider of process solutions for the nutrition, health and industrial markets, has cut emissions from its Ocala facility by 25 percent through partnering with the Ocala Electric Utility (OEU) and The Florida Municipal Solar Project.

SPX FLOW’s Ocala location makes dehydration equipment vital for the function and maintenance of compressed air tools. Based on estimates from 2021, the collaboration will reduce carbon dioxide by more than 461,000 lbs (nearly 210 tons) by switching to solar for a quarter of the facility’s energy needs.

“We live in ‘The Sunshine State’ where solar power should be easy and accessible,” said Jason Desler, Environment, Health and Safety Leader for SPX FLOW’s Ocala facility. “This has been a win-win partnership with the city and we are excited with the results so far.”

With such success thus far, the Ocala facility plans to increase its participation next year to 50 percent.

“SPX FLOW looks at our sustainability footprint as a whole — everything from electricity and gas to water and waste,” said Dave Mirek, Environment, Health and Safety Leader for SPX FLOW North America region. “This is a great community collaboration using the available resources and the perfect example of how we can embrace sustainability practices and be an example for others in the field, as well.”

According to the City of Ocala, the Florida Municipal Solar Project will be one of the largest municipal-backed solar projects in the United States, with two solar sites currently online and two more by early 2024. OEU and the 15 other solar project participants are also discussing a Phase III in 2025 that could double the size of the project.

“OEU is dedicated to serving the Ocala community. We strive to provide safe, reliable power to all our customers,” said Doug Peebles, Director of Ocala Electric Utility. “The Community Solar Program gives OEU customers the ability to not have to worry about upfront costs, maintenance fees or lengthy contracts. We are proud to partner with SPX FLOW in this green initiative.”
