Brand Legacy & Heritage

Waukesha Cherry-Burrell has more than 140 years of experience serving sanitary and industrial processors. The brand has built a reputation for durable engineering, dependable performance and equipment designed to support consistent product quality, efficient operation and long service life.

A key part of its heritage is external circumferential piston pump technology. Waukesha Cherry-Burrell positive displacement pumps are engineered to provide efficient, low-pulsation flow across a broad viscosity range while gently handling shear-sensitive and challenging products.

The brand also manufactures proprietary Alloy 88 rotors in its in-house foundry in Delavan, Wisconsin. This non-galling material supports tight pump clearances, volumetric efficiency and extended component life.

Votator® scraped surface heat exchangers are another important part of the brand’s legacy. For more than 80 years, Votator technology has helped processors move from batch operations to more controlled, repeatable and efficient continuous thermal processing.

Today, Waukesha Cherry-Burrell continues to advance its pump, valve and heat exchanger technologies while supporting customers with application expertise and lifecycle services.

Frequently Asked Questions

Waukesha Cherry-Burrell is a process equipment brand that designs and manufactures pumps, valves, scraped surface heat exchangers and dispersion equipment for sanitary and industrial applications. It is part of ITT Flow Technologies.

Waukesha Cherry-Burrell manufactures positive displacement pumps, centrifugal pumps, sanitary and industrial valves, Votator scraped surface heat exchangers, shear pumps, colloid mills, CR Mixers, filters, strainers and valve control equipment.

Waukesha positive displacement pumps can handle low-viscosity liquids, viscous products, shear-sensitive ingredients, products containing particulates, abrasive materials and certain corrosive or industrial fluids. The correct model, rotor clearance, seal and material configuration depends on the application.

A Waukesha positive displacement pump is a rotary pump designed to move a controlled volume of product with each rotation. Many Waukesha pumps use an external circumferential piston rotor design that provides efficient, gentle and low-pulsation flow across a broad viscosity range.

A positive displacement pump moves a defined volume of product per rotation and is commonly selected for viscous, shear-sensitive or metering applications. A centrifugal pump uses a rotating impeller to generate flow and is commonly selected for higher-flow, lower-viscosity liquid applications. Waukesha Cherry-Burrell offers both pump technologies.

Waukesha Alloy 88 is a proprietary non-galling nickel-based alloy used in Waukesha Cherry-Burrell pump rotors and selected pumping components. It is produced in the brand’s in-house foundry and helps support tight operating clearances, pumping efficiency and long component life.

A Votator scraped surface heat exchanger is a thermal processing system that uses rotating blades to remove product from the heat transfer surface as it is heated or cooled. This scraping action supports efficient heat transfer when processing viscous, sticky, crystallizing or particulate-containing products.

Votator scraped surface heat exchangers can process cheese sauces, pudding, caramel, deboned meat, pet food, fruit products, soups, dressings, syrups, nut butters, gelatin, margarine, shampoos, deodorants, paraffin, caulk and greases. The Extra Heavy-Duty Series can process products with viscosities in the 1,000,000-centipoise range.

Waukesha Cherry-Burrell mixproof valves are sanitary valves designed to separate dissimilar fluids where two pipelines intersect. Their double-seat construction creates a separation chamber between the fluids, helping processors operate multiple process or cleaning streams while limiting the potential for cross-contamination.

Yes. Waukesha Cherry-Burrell offers pumps and other equipment for industrial processes involving abrasive, corrosive, non-lubricating, viscous and shear-sensitive media. Industrial pump models include the Universal 2 ND and 5000 Series. Diffusion hardening is also available for pump components, including the body, cover and rotors, helping extend component life when processing abrasive or chemically aggressive media. The result is reduced wear and increased uptime.

Yes. Waukesha Cherry-Burrell equipment is supported by application engineers and other technical specialists who can help evaluate process conditions, select equipment and determine appropriate configurations. Customers may also use Innovation Centers for trials, process development, KPI validation and training.

Yes. Genuine OEM replacement parts are available for Waukesha Cherry-Burrell pumps, valves and scraped surface heat exchangers through Waukesha Cherry-Burrell and its distributor network. Available services also include equipment rebuilds, refurbishment and technical support.

Genuine Waukesha Cherry-Burrell parts are manufactured to the brand’s equipment specifications and tolerances. This supports component compatibility, sanitary integrity, process performance and equipment service life. Genuine rotors, seals, blades, shafts and other parts can also be installed through authorized certified repair centers.

Waukesha Cherry-Burrell maintains manufacturing operations in Delavan, Wisconsin. The facility assembles and tests equipment and includes the in-house foundry used to produce proprietary Alloy 88 pumping components.
