STORIES IN THE MAKING

Key Advantages of External Circumferential Piston Rotors
When it comes to reliable fluid handling, choosing the right rotor design is critical. Waukesha Cherry-Burrell (WCB) External Circumferential Piston (ECP) rotors set the benchmark for performance, durability and operational efficiency in positive displacement (PD) pumps.
What is an ECP Rotor?
An ECP rotor features an arc-shaped “piston” (rotor wing) with long sealing paths that rotates within the pump housing, creating sealed cavities that transfer product smoothly and efficiently. The ECP design delivers a more consistent flow with minimal pulsation, making it ideal for shear-sensitive and viscous applications.
Superior Material Quality with Alloy 88 Non-Galling Performance
WCB’s ECP rotors are manufactured from proprietary Alloy 88, cast in-house to strict metallurgy standards. This nickel-based alloy will deliver:
- Non-galling performance which prevents pump seiziure or catastrophic failure
- Excellent durability and corrosion resistance
- Extended pump service life
Tighter Operating Clearances for Maximum Efficiency and Product Handling
The ECP rotor’s precise geometry and non-galling Alloy 88 construction allow tighter clearances within the pump chamber, resulting in:
- Reduced product slip and higher volumetric efficiency
- Improved suction capabilities
- Precise, pulse-free flow, critical for metered or batching processes
- Smooth and gentle product handling for shear sensitive fluids
Proven Durability with Lower Maintenance Costs
ECP rotors withstand abrasive, corrosive and aggressive chemical environments better than alternative materials or aftermarket options. This durability will:
- Extend time between rebuilds
- Prevent premature rotor or pump housing damage
- Reduce total cost of ownership over the pump’s lifecycle
