Dosing Equipment for Precise, Reliable Process Control

Accurate dosing is essential when product quality, process consistency, safety and operating efficiency depend on introducing the right amount of a liquid, ingredient or gas at the right time. We offer dosing equipment for applications ranging from high-pressure chemical injection and industrial fluid metering to hygienic ingredient addition, fruit preparation dosing and gas injection in spray drying processes.

The portfolio includes Bran+Luebbe® metering pumps and engineered pump packages, APV® food and dairy dosing systems and Anhydro® gas dosing technology. Together, these solutions help manufacturers control flow rates, maintain repeatable formulations, protect process integrity and integrate dosing operations into automated production systems.

What Is Dosing Equipment?

Dosing equipment introduces a controlled quantity of a fluid, ingredient or gas into a process. Depending on the application, a dosing solution may include a positive displacement metering pump, diaphragm or plunger pumphead, storage or preparation vessel, flowmeter, mixer, valves, instrumentation, automation and a skid-mounted control system.

Metering pumps, also called dosing pumps, deliver defined volumes of fluid under controlled operating conditions. Flow may be adjusted through stroke length, stroke frequency, motor speed or automated process controls. Complete dosing systems can also manage ingredient preparation, proportional dosing, blending, traceability, cleaning and communication with plant control platforms.

Bran+Luebbe Metering Pumps and Dosing Systems

Bran+Luebbe® offers a broad portfolio of precision metering pumps and engineered dosing systems for industrial, chemical, energy, water treatment and hygienic processing applications. Available diaphragm and plunger pump technologies support a wide range of flow rates, pressures and fluid properties, including hazardous, corrosive, abrasive and high-value media. Configurable pumpheads, multiple wetted-material options and manual or automated flow-control capabilities allow systems to be matched to specific process requirements. For more complex installations, complete pump packages can integrate piping, instrumentation, controls and supporting equipment into skid-mounted systems with batch, flow or proportional control and optional PLC or SCADA connectivity.

APV Dosing Equipment for Food and Dairy Processing

APV® dosing equipment is designed for accurate, hygienic addition of cultures, ingredients, fruit preparations, flavors, aromas and other components used in dairy and food production. These systems support applications such as yogurt, fresh cheese and formulated dairy products where consistent recipes, contamination control and efficient product changeovers are essential. Hygienic construction, automated proportional dosing, integrated mixing, traceability capabilities and compatibility with clean-in-place or sterilize-in-place processes help manufacturers maintain product quality while supporting efficient, repeatable production.

Anhydro Dosing Equipment for Spray Drying

Anhydro® dosing equipment supports controlled gas injection into high-pressure spray dryer feed systems. By precisely dosing nitrogen or carbon dioxide, manufacturers can influence powder characteristics such as bulk density, particle structure, brightness, flowability, solubility and foaming performance. The technology is used in applications including soluble coffee, dairy powders, infant formula, coffee whiteners, cocoa beverages, sweeteners, malt products and plant extracts. Available control approaches can support fixed or proportional gas flow, process automation integration and optional hygienic, CIP-capable system designs.

How Dosing Equipment Supports Process Performance

Selecting the right dosing equipment can help manufacturers:

  • Maintain accurate and repeatable flow rates
  • Improve formulation and batch consistency
  • Reduce ingredient or chemical waste
  • Safely contain hazardous or corrosive fluids
  • Support hygienic or sterile production

Frequently Asked Questions

Dosing equipment introduces a measured amount of a liquid, ingredient, chemical or gas into a process. It may include a metering pump, vessel, mixer, flowmeter, valves, instrumentation and automated controls.

The terms are often used interchangeably. Both describe positive displacement pumps that deliver controlled quantities of fluid. “Metering pump” typically emphasizes flow accuracy, while “dosing pump” emphasizes adding a chemical or ingredient to a process.

Dosing equipment is commonly used in chemical processing, oil and gas, water treatment, power generation, pharmaceutical, personal care, dairy, food and beverage, biofuels, pulp and paper and other industrial applications.

Diaphragm and plunger metering pumps are commonly used for chemical dosing. Diaphragm pumps are often selected when fluid containment is especially important, while plunger pumps can provide accurate metering at higher pressures. The best option depends on the fluid, pressure, flow rate, temperature and material compatibility requirements.

Yes. We offer hygienic metering pumps and dosing systems for food, dairy, beverage, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, cosmetics and personal care applications.

Depending on the product and configuration, dosing systems can support variable-speed operation, automated flow adjustment, PLC integration, SCADA communication, MES connectivity, recipe management, alarms, traceability and proportional flow control.

Important selection criteria include the fluid or ingredient, required flow rate, discharge pressure, viscosity, temperature, solids content, chemical compatibility, cleaning requirements, control method, area classification and applicable hygienic or industry standards.
